Plaid integration
How Finpal uses Plaid
Finpal is a personal budgeting app. If you choose to link a bank account, that connection is established through Plaid, a third-party service that specializes in secure financial data connectivity.
We do not see your bank username or password. You sign in directly with your financial institution through Plaid’s interface. Finpal receives only the data Plaid makes available to us for the features you use.
Plaid products we use
We use Plaid’s Transactions product, including recurring transactions, so Finpal can:
- Show your transactions, monthly cash flow and spending analysis
- Predict upcoming paychecks, bills and subscriptions from your recurring activity
- Match receipts to the correct spending activity where you use that feature
- Power AI-assisted insights based on your linked data
Where your bank supports it, we also use Plaid’s Liabilities product to read your credit card balances, APRs, statement balances and payment due dates, and the interest rates on student loans and mortgages, so Finpal can show what you owe and track your payments.
From each linked account we receive its name, type, last four digits and balance. We do not move money or make payments.
Data handling
Transaction and account metadata needed to run the app are stored in our backend database (hosted on Supabase) and associated with your Finpal account. We use this information only to provide the service to you. We do not sell your financial data. For more detail, see our Privacy Policy.
Your control
You can disconnect a bank at any time in the app (Settings → Link Bank Account), which also ends the connection at Plaid, or choose which of its accounts it shares. You can also revoke Finpal’s access through your bank or Plaid’s consumer tools. Plaid explains options for end users in their consumer disclosures.
